I represented FEAP 5a through my pre and post observations conferences with my CT and supervisor. Supervisor Observation- Before my observation, I created a lesson plan for how I would line the students up for PE. Since I was trying something new for the students by having them use voice level zero, stay in a line, have their hands to themselves, and use a walking pace, I did not know how to effectively introduce this to the students. During my pre-observation conference with my supervisor, she suggested that I incorporate competition into my routine. I loved this idea so I revised my lesson plan and followed through with it a week later. Prior to the post conference, I had the opportunity to watch the video of me performing the routine and discuss any questions I had about it with my supervisor during our post conference. Together we came up with a different way I can word how to line the student's up because I felt weak in that area while performing the routine. These conferences represent FEAP 5a because they strengthened my routine and future routines while keeping the students at the focus. CT Observation- During pre-observation conference with my CT, she gave me sticky notes and suggested that I write down my talking points and put them on the page so I don't forget what I want to say to the students. She also discussed with me that the dialog in my lesson plan is really helpful and something that she uses in her lesson plans to help her plan out what she will say. She suggested that I think of possible responses that the student's will have to my questions so I can plan on how to refocus the topic if needed or teach off of a students response. I found this to be really helpful and useful during my routine. For my post-observation conference, my CT and I talked about how in the future I can allow the students' natural comments to occur more instead of having them be at a voice level zero for the whole read aloud. We also agreed that when I have students talk in small groups, I could circulate around the room more to ensure the students are talking about the task they are supposed to be talking about. I was able to learn a lot from my CT in the pre and post-observation conferences that helped me strengthen my routine and will help me strengthen future read aloud routines so my students are able to get the most out of the lesson. Level 2 Evidence: To strengthen the effectiveness of my lessons this semester, I met with my supervisor and CT before each lesson. For my first observation, I did my lesson plan on mental health. Since this was my first content-based lesson plan, my supervisor assisted me in constructing the objective of my lesson. She suggested that I start presenting the objective at the beginning of the lesson so my students are able to identify what is expected from them before we start. During my post-conference observation, we set a goal to incorporate the objective at the end of the lesson as well. We also made it a goal to incorporate more partner work, therefore for my remaining 3 observations of the semester, I presented the objective at the beginning and end of the lesson and incorporated partner work! These pre and post-conferences helped me grow and adapt my lessons to strengthen the effectiveness of the material on the students. Level 3 evidence:At the beginning of the semester I had the opportunity to teach a whole group lesson and have my supervisors watch as an informal observation. They took notes for me and asked me questions after my lesson so that I could reflect on my teaching. After I reflected we had a quick conference about how I felt and we talked about my "glows and grows" this process allowed me to immediately reflect on what worked well and what I need to work on more to meet my student's needs. I was thankful that they did this at the beginning of the semester because now every time I teach writing, I have these goals set for myself and I know what I can do to reach them.
I also took it upon myself this semester to reflect on my class and their needs as a way to form my wondering. I didn't end up using this wondering this semester but it did help guide me to my final wondering in which I conducted my research. Through this process I was able to reflect on students'assets and their needs and think about the different ways I can incorporate it all into one big wondering. This process helped me begin the process of thinking about my goals for this class and how I can strengthen my instruction through these goals. |
