Observation of my choosing- After observing my CT with the small group a week prior, I noticed that many students were shy when it came to speaking the words in English. Therefore, in the routine of my choice inquiry reflection assignment, I represented FEAP 2f through encouraging words when the students were trying to pronounce the English words. I offered support by writing the word on the white board and sounding out the word with each student. I also asked the students to help me learn which created an equal dynamic, allowing them to understand that even I, the "teacher", am learning like they are.
Morning Meeting- The objective of the morning meeting was to offer students support through their peers during the group sharing and during the morning message. The group sharing portion of the meeting the students were to talk about how they felt their first observation went and how they feel about their upcoming observation. During this time the students were allowed to ask questions to the other two students in their group and at the end of all three group members sharing, there was one minute designated for other group members to offer advice or support. In doing this sharing activity, we provided an open and safe environment where students were able express their emotions, ask questions, have their own time to talk, and get support at the end. Our morning message included words such as "strong students" and "everyone should be proud of themselves..." which offers students additional support to get their day started and create a positive environment. Supervisor Observation- While lining the students up for specials, I set the expectation that all students should be quiet in the hallway, and provided non-verbal reminders. I also complimented the class to give them support in a routine that they aren't used to doing my way. If a student was to misbehave I planned to pull them aside before PE and have a one-on-one conversation with them to avoid any embarrassment and create a safe environment for the student so they understand why it is important to walk safely in the hallway. CT Observation- After I read the book to the students, I had them turn to a partner and talk about a problem they may have had and how they learned and grew from it. After we had a whole group discussion where students could share what they talked about. During this time I helped guide the student's thinking when they gave me what their problem is to how we could all learn and grow from that problem while simultaneously stating that it is okay to be upset when a problem arrises but we have to make sure we have different strategies to use to be able to solve the problem and learn from it. This created a safe environment where the students were able to share, ask questions and get support from peers and from me. I also planned for if a student started talking during the read aloud and how I want to maintain a supportive environment therefore I will announce to the whole class a verbal reminder instead of name calling one student. |
